Raychelle was appointed the first woman cabinet Secretary for defence. She is the daughter of the former Nyanza political supremo, the late William Odongo Omamo.

Omamo studied law at the University of Kent at Canterbury, UK. She is a Senior Counsel and an Advocate of the High Court for 27 years. She was the first female chairperson of the Law Society of Kenya from 2001 to 2003 after serving as a council member from 1996 to 2000 and Kenyan first female ambassador to France, Portugal, The Holy See and Serbia as well as the Permanent Delegate of the Kenya to UNESCO. She was a member of the Task Force on the Establishment of the Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission for Kenya.

Sicily was appointed Minister for Public Service, Youth and gender Affairs in 2015 following suspension of some cabinet ministers on corruption allegations. She is an alumni of Nairobi University and holds a Master of Business Administration (Strategic Management) Degree.

Before her appointment, she served as a Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries. Previously, she worked at Kenya Investment Authority (KIA), Fresh Produce Exporters Association of Kenya (FPEAK) and Tea Board of Kenya where she was the Managing director for 8 years.

5. Prof. Judy Wakhungu

Professor Judy was appointed to the cabinet in 2013.  Unknown to many, she is the daughter of former vice president to President Mwai Kibaki, “Uncle Moody Awori”. Prof. Judy studied Geology in the US and Canada before starting an international career in environmental matters.

Prof Wakhungu was the first woman geologist in the Ministry of Energy and Regional Development, where her duties entailed exploring for geothermal energy in Kenya’s Rift Valley. Prof. Wakhungu was also the first female petroleum geologist in the National Oil Corporation of Kenya. She was also the first female faculty member in the Department of Geology at the University of Nairobi.
