A teenage girl who is the prime suspect in the murder of Nairobi Hospital finance boss Erick Maigo has been arrested.
The girl who the Directorate of Criminal Investigations says is 16 years old was arrested on Tuesday night.
“The suspect who detectives have established is a juvenile aged 16, was arrested at Olympic village in the sprawling Kibera slums last night, after sleuths received information regarding her whereabouts,” the DCI said.
Immediately after her arrest, the DCI said that the teenager was whisked to DCI headquarters for interrogation before she was booked at Muthaiga police station.
“She had been captured scaling perimeter walls in CCTV footage retrieved by crime scene detectives close to the scene of the murder, prompting detectives to launch a manhunt across the city,” said DCI.
Daring 8-minute escape that was staged by Erick Maigo’s suspected killer
Maigo’s lifeless body was found in a pool of blood on September 15, bearing 25 stab wounds. He had been stabbed on his neck, chest and face. However, there were no stab wounds on his hands, leading detectives to question whether he had been poisoned before the attack.
Detectives also determined that two knives were used during the attack. The two knives were found at the scene of crime. Detectives had largely concentrated their search for the suspect within the Kibera area, after concluding that the girl was still in the area.
Local media had reported that she was seen as late as Friday, one week after Maigo’s murder, going home.
