Simon Wambugu, a suspect arrested in connection with the murder of Kabete MP George Muchai has claimed that police have been torturing him by attempting to crash his private parts. The suspect’s lawyer Kamati Shamara told a Milimani Court on Friday that Mr. Wambugu had suffered serious injuries around his manhood and needed urgent medical attention.
According to Mr. Wambugu, police had resorted to crashing his manhood in an attempt to get him to unearth more confessions on the mysterious murder of the MP.
“I personally have been denied access as well as members of his family who had brought him food, he has been seriously tortured in attempts to extract an admission… this type of conduct will ultimately result in a mistrial,” defence lawyer Kamati Shamara said.
Subsequently, Milimani Resident Magistrate Miriam Mugure Friday directed Gichamba be taken to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) and be examined by private doctor.
The magistrate also directed police to ensure the rights of the suspect are respected and he be allowed access to a lawyer of choice.
Uncharacteristic of other court appearances, Gichamba’s relatives thronged the courtroom during the Friday morning session.
The magistrate directed a medical report be filed in court to show the extent of injuries Gichamba sustained while in police custody. He is expected back in court on March 10.
