A senior state prosecutor, Daniel Karuri, told Milimani Courts chief magistrate Francis Andayi that the banker stole the money from the lender by virtue of his employment.

Mr Muli denied four counts of stealing with the second count stating he stole $58,268 (Sh6,126,880.20) while the third count read that he stole 27,880 euros (Sh3,436,210). The fourth charge read that he stole £35,490 (Sh4,855,741.80).

The accused applied for bail, saying he is a family man and not a flight risk. Mr Karuri did not oppose the plea.
