Co-op Bank wins overall prize, sweeps all prizes in Sustainable Finance awards

The Co-operative Bank has been named as the overall winner in the Sustainable Finance Catalyst Awards 2023.

This year’s awards victory marked the fourth time in six years that Co-op Bank has won the prestigious awards.

“These Kenya Banker’s Association awards recognize financial institutions that excel in sustainable financial practices,” said Co-op Bank in a statement. “This is the 4th time in 6years that Co-op Bank has taken the award, confirming our commitment to financial sustainability.”

Interestingly, apart from winning the top awards, Co-op Bank went on to sweep all the awards in the Sustainable Finance awards category.

The awards that are organized by the Kenya Bankers Association are aimed at recognizing financial institutions that excel in sustainable financial practices.

These awards are the latest to be added on the cap of Co-op, which in September 2023 was named as the best financier of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Africa in 2023.

These awards were issued during the Global SME Finance Forum in Mumbai, India. Co-op bank bagged the Gold Award for the SME Financier Of The Year In Africa ahead of Tanzania’s  NMB.

“In collaboration with IFC and other partners, we have taken time to listen, study, and build a most competitive value proposition for SMEs intended to support them realize the goals they have set for themselves,” said Co-op Bank CEO Gideon Muriuki.
