EAC presidents to meet in Tanzania
EAC heads of state will meet in Arusha, Tanzania, on Wednesday to discuss stopping the importation of used clothes, shoes and leather products from outside the region.
The bloc said via Facebook on Friday it would consider its council’s reports modalities for promoting vehicle assembly, reducing importation of used cars and promoting the region’s textile and leather industries.
The meeting will also consider the council’s reports on the model, structure and action plan of the EAC Political Federation and implementing the framework for harmonised EAC roaming charges.
“Sustainable financing mechanisms for the East African Community and the EAC Institutional Review will also be on the agenda,” read the post.
The heads of state will also discuss reports by the EAC Council of Ministers and negotiations on the admission of South Sudan into the community.
They will also deliberate on a report by the council on the verification exercise for the admission of Somalia and are expected to launch the new international East African e-Passport.
Also to be launched at the summit is the private sector fund that is aimed at deepening its participation in the East Africa integration process.
The summit will be preceded by a meeting of the EAC Council of Ministers at the bloc’s headquarters in Arusha on Monday.
