New details on the death of Kirinyaga IEBC officer have emerged. This comes a day after the Kirinyaga IEBC officer Geffrey Gitobu died.

Gitobu was the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) returning officer in Gichugu Constituency, Kirinyaga County.

Gitobu is said to have collapsed and died. According to Kirinyaga County IEBC manager Jane Gitonga, Gitobu had taken a short break to see his family in Nanyuki. He visited the Nanyuki IEBC offices where he reportedly collapsed and was rushed to Cottage Hospital Nanyuki, where he died.

Speculation into the death of Gitobu had seen former IEBC commissioner Roselyne Akombe allude that he may have been killed.

“No words to describe the pain of yet another loss of a public servant who was serving his country. Lost for any words to condole the family of Gitobu and the IEBC staff,” Akombe said. “While we await the cause of this sudden death, it is time to stop these senseless incidents.”
