Grounded 787 Dreamliners, unavailable aircrew behind KQ flight disruptions

Kenya Airways has blamed the grounding of two of its 787 Dreamliners for the flight schedule disruptions it is experiencing. At the same time, the national carrier has stated that unavailability of flight crew has aggravated the situation.

“We would like to inform our customers that we are experiencing some disruptions in our flight schedules, which are leading to abnormally high levels of delays. The main reason for these disruptions is the unscheduled and extended grounding of two of our 787 Dreamliners,” the national carrier stated.

KQ added that the two 787 Dreamliners had been grounded due to delayed engine and engine components delivery. “The flight disruption has also been impacted by the unavailability of our flight crew for some regional flights,” KQ added.

To address these disruptions, Kenya Airways said that it is readjusting its network, communicating as proactively as possible to its affected customers, speeding up the recovery of the grounded aircraft, and adjusting its schedule, including downgrading some of its flights, to minimize the disruptions.

“We anticipate that our network will normalize by Tuesday, 21st May 2024, once we receive and install the necessary engines and components. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding during this time,” said KQ in a statement.
