Oil Libya staff charged with theft of property worth millions

Four employees of Oil Libya Kenya Ltd were yesterday charged before a Nairobi court with two counts of malicious damage and theft of property worth Sh 1.5 million at a service station.

Joyce Nekoye Wanjala, Nancy Waeni Mutune, Antony Muraya and Stanley Marete appeared before Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku and denied all the charges.

The court heard that on June 7 this year at Juja Road service station in Nairobi, jointly with others who were not before court, they stole property valued at Sh1,530,000 belonging to Macen Limited. They faced a second count of malicious damage of five padlocks worth Sh12,500. Their lawyer James Oduol noted that charging the four is an abuse of the court process since the case was at the High Court as a civil case.

He also asked the court to release them on very lenient bail terms and also to supply them with copies of all witness statements. Mutuku ordered them to pay a Sh200,000 bond each and a surety of the same amount or upon deposit of a Sh100,000 cash bail. The case will be heard on September 6.
