President Ruto has clearly stated that he does not recognize the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) as an independent state.

This comes just a day after SADR’s president Brahim Ghali visited Kenya with other state dignitaries for Ruto’s inauguration ceremony.

After his meeting with Morroccan King, His Majesty Mohammed VI, President Ruto denounced his recognition for SADR agitating for independence from Morocco.

In light of that, Ruto stated that the process leading to the closure of all businesses operated by the Sahrawi Republic in Kenya, including the embassy located in Kilimani area, Nairobi, had already commenced.

“At State House in Nairobi, received congratulatory message from His Majesty King Mohammed VI. Kenya rescinds its recognition of the SADR and initiates steps to wind down the entity’s presence in the country.” He wrote on his Twitter page.

“Kenya supports the United Nations framework as the exclusive mechanism to find a lasting solution of the dispute over Western Sahara.”

The partially recognized state is only acknowledged by 41 of 193 UN members.

“Kenya rescinds its recognition of the SADR and initiates steps to wind down the entity’s presence in the country,” he said.

Ruto said Kenya is accelerating relations with Morocco in areas of trade, agriculture, health, tourism and energy among others.
