Telkom apologizes for service outage, won’t charge customers for 24hrs

Telkom customers in some parts of the country were unable to access mobile voice and data services during the course of the day on Wednesday and Thursday.

Following this outage, the telecommunications firm has come out to offer an apology to its customers. The firm says that the voice and data services have been restored in most parts of the country, while restoration is ongoing in other parts.

“I apologise for any inconvenience this service outage has caused our customers and assure them that we are working to restore services back to all areas as soon as possible,” Telkom Kenya chief executive officer Mugo Kibati said.

He added that Telkom was reviewing all customer queries coming through and taking the necessary steps to stem any network outages.

“We are ensuring that we address and amicably resolve all individual cases that are as a result of this service outage,” said Kibati. He also added that Telkom will not bill its customers for the 24 hours they experienced outages. “Telkom will not bill its Mobile customers for the period starting 6:00 pm, Wednesday, January 19, 2022 through to 6:00 pm, Thursday, January 20, 2022,” he said, adding that during this period, customers have been using the Telkom services without being billed.

Getting more for less. Telkom offers more minutes in updated voice packages

Telkom has emerged as one of the most preferred network providers in Kenya due to its low data packages and data efficiency. The service provider currently has a package that offers up to 180 GB for Sh. 2,000, an amount of GB that would cost Sh. 18,000 on a rival network.
