Tuskys Supermarkets has shut down one of its busiest branches in Nairobi. Yesterday, customers were taken aback to find doors to Tuskys Sheikh Karume Road closed.
According to the management, the branch has been shut down, bringing its total branches in the country down to 54.
However, the management of Tuskys was unwilling to reveal why the branch was closed.
However, cost containment and failure to agree terms with the landlord might have been cause. In December 2013 for instance, Tuskys lost its branch which was situated next to the Fire Station along Tom Mboya Street in Nairobi to rival Eastmatt after failing to agree lease terms with the landlord.
On the other hand, a research by Kestrel Capital shows that Kenya’s retail and grocery stores earn a return on sales of between one and three per cent, and thus Tuskys might have been forced to cut down on costs.
