Every day, thousands of Kenyans seeking to travel to the United States visit the Embassy of the United States to apply for visas. These applications cost thousands. Out of the many who apply, very few are allowed to travel.
Rejections are many. In fact, when you go to the US embassy for your visa interview, chances of getting rejected are higher than those of getting the green light.
But there are some Kenyans who have succeeded in their first attempt. One of these is Edgar Kwach, a Kenyan who shared his amazing experience as follows:
The craziest travel experience that I have ever had, was applying for a US visa. My brother and I had a chat and decided to apply for the visa, we knew that it was easier to get into heaven than getting the visa, but what the heck.
I went online, applied, paid the Sh. 18,000 and waited for the appointment to be given, it was a two week wait.
On the interview day, I went with all the supporting documentation, bank statements, letters from my former teachers all about 160 pages worth.
I got there, went through security and finally got into the interview hall, in those 20 minutes that I waited, 6 people were rejected, I knew I was done for.
Everything you need to know about migrating to Canada, US, and UK
Then my turn came, walked up, he asked me for my name, told him. He then asked me why I wanted to go to the US, I told him that I wanted to go shop. He then asked me what I did for a living, I told him that I was in advertising.
He then asked me to go to another counter and pay $40, I then asked him after that should I come back so that we can start the interview, he said that there’s no need, he’s giving me a 5 year multiple visa.
The whole thing didn’t last 3 minutes and he didn’t look at even one of my documents! I was shocked but elated at the same time. Walking out I asked someone why it took so short.
He told me that by the time you set foot into that hall, they already know if they will give you the visa or not. They will have already checked your bank account, amount of transactions.
