Raila’s ODM nominates Winnie Odinga for EALA parliament seat

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s daughter Winnie Odinga has made the cut in the list of six people who have been picked as nominees to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

The others in the list are Suleiman Shahbal, Mohamed Diriye, Timothy Bosire, Beatrice Askul, and Justus Kizito.

They represent Mombasa, Wajir, Nairobi, Nyamira, Turkana and Kakamega counties.

This list will be trimmed further to accommodate Azimio la Umoja coalition parties.

In the EALA, Kenya has nine seats up for grabs. Five of the nine will go the Kenya Kwanza coalition while four will go to the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

From the four, ODM is expected to have two seats while other affiliate parties; Jubilee and Wiper will each get a seat.

Winnie Odinga is widely being seen as the heir to the Raila Odinga’s political throne. This as Raila’s longstanding political career inches ever closer to its climax.

If picked for the seat, the EALA position is expected to hone Winnie’s budding political skills and possibly prepare her for an elective position in the 2027 Kenya  general elections.
