Affordable housing is one of the Jubilee government big four agenda of their second term in office.

The government is set to devolve this Agenda into 47 counties across the country. If the plan sails through it will help to solve a number of issues that directly affect the economy of this country

One of the key areas will be the huge gap of unemployment among the youths. This will be by ensuring youth get direct opportunities in building industry.

Following the approval of procurement and disposal (amendment bill of 2013),  Youths were privileged with participation in the procurement process in accordance with article 227 of the constitution.

The housing program will see 20, 000 youths directly involved in the project that will see 5000 houses constructed. According to Deputy President William Ruto the government has set aside millions of funds to ensure the project succeed.

“I want to tell residents of Trans-nzoia that talks to relocate the prisons from town to farm prison has reached an agreement. And the good news is faced one of the lands will be used in one of our big four agenda of affordable housing this will see 20, 000 youths from Trans Nzoia county getting jobs and contracts as part of the plan,” said Ruto.

This project will be set on the land that initially belonged to Kenya prisons in town. There have been talks to relocate Kitale minimum prison from town to its main prison few kilometers out of town. This is to allow expansion of Kitale town.

The move will see the government build affordable housing for public servants and other spaces for office use. Ruto was speaking over the weekend in a harambee organized by Catholic diocese of Kitale. More than 10million was contributed

Speaking to press Governor Khaemba has welcomed the move by the national government. He says the project will see youths in the county get employed on different capacity. Trans Nzoia is one of the counties with a large number of unemployed youths in the country.

The government will finance student who will enroll for technical vocational courses with a bursary of Ksh. 30, 000 and further award them with a loan of Ksh. 40, 000. As one way of providing youths with the necessary support in readiness to the housing project in Trans Nzoia.

“We want to equip our youths with technical skills so that once they come out they can be employed here in our housing plan,” said Ruto

Meanwhile, the county government of Trans Nzoia has allocated more than Ksh. 100 Million to improve infrastructure in town,  there has been a public outcry on the state of roads in town.
