Solve a Common Problem: Is there a gap in the market? Is there a service or product you would like to bring to market? (Note: This is the highest-risk of the three approaches.) If you choose to do this, make sure that you become a student and gain knowledge first before you spend any money.
2. Begin with a detailed plan.
This one is a must: Develop an in-depth plan that fully details how you’ll attack the challenge ahead. Your plan should define any opportunities you’ve identified, clearly state your mission, describe your target, establish measurable goals, and set deadlines for each milestone along the way. Remember that while it’s important to have a plan, it’s equally vital to be flexible enough to pivot when needed.
3. Fully Commit
Successful entrepreneurs are people who are fully committed to their business ventures. You have to be prepared to put your heart and soul into what you’re doing, truly believe in your product or service, and be prepared to work long hours to get others to believe in your product or service too.
When you start a business, you have to be ready to go without treats such as holidays, and even necessities such as salary, for what may seem like an endless stretch of time. And you have to do all this without the safety net that salaried employees are used to, such as benefits and pension plans. In fact, you have to have a whole different mindset as an entrepreneur than an employee does.
4. Freelance or Consult
One of the easiest ways to start a business is to freelance or consult. You don’t need a lot of startup cash to do this, and you have the potential to trade on your knowledge and skills and brand to make money. If you have knowledge and skills, you can start a business as a freelancer or consultant.
