It appears to be the end of the road for power business couple Sarah and Simon Kabu. In what has shocked many, Sarah Kabu has over the past few days come out to label her husband as toxic and emotionally abusive.

This has left many people baffled since the couple has branded itself as the paragon of a good marriage, with frequent public displays of romance.

In fact Sarah has over the past few years branded herself as the president of ‘Goat Wives’ in reference to women who have married at the church following their customary and traditional dowry ceremonies.

Now, Sarah says that her marriage has not been as glamorous as the public displays of romance that she and her husband have been showing off. She says that after twelve years, she has had enough with Simon.

“Maybe fifty or seventy per cent it’s been what you have seen on social media, very very blissful, beautiful…we have had our good times but we have also had our bad times which we don’t show on social media,”

she said.

She added she wouldn’t discuss the details of the bad times in her marriage,

“I think sometimes when I meet people, they tell me you inspire us, you are couple goals..and maybe at that time I’m going through a lot of issues in my life and sometimes I say please stop telling me we’re couple goals, I have enough problems,”

she said.

She said that she wished to be happy and at peace like the many people who looked up to her.

“Although my marriage is not working, I believe marriages work and marriage is a beautiful thing. I have seen my parents’ and siblings’, neighbours’ marriages work so even if my marriage isn’t, I believe in marriage.”

“I don’t want to be in that couple goals league anymore. I realized sometimes you can lie until you lie to yourself so you could find that you’re crying or going through a difficult time but you have to smile for the cameras and assume things are okay,”

she said.

Sarah also says that the small issues people have gone through in relationships, she has gone through them 10 times over.

“When I felt enough is enough, from January my new year resolution I was asking myself if I wanted to live another year or more like that. I told Kabu I wasn’t comfortable in our marriage and I was tired of faking it. I wanted a peaceful separation and co-parenting.”

In January 2020, Sarah claimed that slay queens have been hunting for her husband. In an interview on Radio Jambo, Sarah revealed that since her husband gifted her a Range Rover SUV for her 39th birthday, “slay queens” have been sending messages trying to gain favours from him.

“During the New Year’s, I was going through his Instagram account, I was going through his DM and a slay queen inboxes him, ‘Happy New Year Simon Kabu, this year my goal is to go out with you, please make it happen.’ I did not respond. We get those DMs almost on a daily basis. The only thing I do is I visit their profile,”

said Sarah.

Sarah has also revealed that when she was getting married to Kabu, he had two kids and assured him that none of his baby mamas would interfere with his life.

“One of the baby mamas is very dramatic. Sometimes she would insult him and send him messages a lot,”

she said.

She added that it got to a point the baby mamas got aggressive when she and Kabu started gifting their kids properties publicly and one of them wanted to bring her child to live with Sarah’s family, but she objected.

“There’s a day I told Kabu to keep away his baby mamas from me and tukutane siku ya matanga yake (we meet at his funeral) because I didn’t want their dramas and I prayed I die before him as a joke,”

she said.

Sarah said after things became tough for her in her marriage, she went to the Trademark hotel alone, where she spent a night, claiming whenever she was not on good terms with Kabu, she would spend nights in hotels.

“The next morning when I went home, he had organised with his daughter (his eldest child) to pick my kids from school without my consent and they went to Amboseli and he didn’t go with any of my nannies…”

she said.

“I felt distressed and scared when my kids were taken from me. When I talked to Kabu and he didn’t listen to me, I called his friends and even involved the police…they were away for 10 days before returning home,”

she said and added that she now stays in an Airbnb.
