Kenyan Tiktok sensation, Aq9ine: How I made Sh. 130k from ‘eating spiders’

Aq9ine: I made 130k from eating spiders

Kenyan TikTok sensation Steven Alvin Muthoni, alias Aq9ine, had hit the headlines about 2 weeks ago with his video showing the effects that he had on his face claiming it was from eating spiders.

With some mocking him for his recklessness and lack of self-care, others found it funny and ridiculed him with nicknames such as ‘spiderman’ and ‘Peter Paka’, while others took to the media to create hilarious memes about the catastrophe that befell the ‘King of Muguka’ Digital Content creator.

Known for his weird food concoctions, aq9ine has revealed that he made over Sh. 136,000 from the video, as well as donations. He used the revenue from his TikTok and Instagram content to buy himself a brand new motorcycle, which he says will help him widen his sources of income in Meru County where he lives.

“At the end of the day, I am a hustler. I must do my work, and entertain you on TikTok but in reality, I work in the Construction Industry. I focus on things that can bring me income.” He stated.

Aq9ine said that he looked forward to upgrading his vehicle to a sports bike before purchasing his dream car, a Subaru. In addition to his purchase of a new motorbike, aq9ine also bought himself road safety gear which consist of a Motorcycle jacket for Sh. 3,500 and a helmet for Sh. 16,000.

“I will not stop creating content since it’s how I make money. I research before I do any video,” he noted.

“I will quit after I get serious health issues or even get admitted to the hospital. I don’t want to die but entertain my fans.”

“Expect what you don’t expect but there are so many ideas.”

Co-Op post

Aq9ine also noted that Tiktok offers a funding program for content creators but it can be really difficult for anybody to make money without a third party being involved.

Aq9ine revealed that his first video came in February 2019 when he fried milk tea. He says that joblessness is what led him to begin creating bizarre dishes and cooking them.

“My first video was on February 2019. I have not started this year.”

Steven also refuted claims that he ate a spider and instead clarified that he was bit by a spider.

“I told you not to believe everything you see on social media. I don’t eat spider. How can you eat spider? Spider has unique body parts. How can you eat such a thing? I said I had eaten a spider out of tension but actually I was bit by a spider here,” he added.

He claimed ‘he consumed a spider’ because he was tense at the moment of video shooting and added that he was bit by a spider while at a construction site.
