On June 12th, 2022, a Nairobi CBD Employee who works at a hotel along Banda Street in Nairobi decided to chew off his boss’ finger after they disagreed as to how the coffee hotel should be arranged.
The boss casually arrived at work early in the morning. The junior employee, who was a storekeeper at the hotel, was agitated that morning and bitterly opposed all of his employer’s instructions.
“The two disagreed over who and how the items will be arranged in the store,” said one of the eye-witnesses.

The altercation quickly escalated between the two as the employee began exchanging harsh words with his boss. In a fit of fury, the storekeeper hit his boss in the chest, after which the boss fell to the ground writhing in pain. Adding insult to injury, the storekeeper grabbed a hold of his boss’ finger and chewed the entire piece of flesh and left it hanging.
The boss suffered an adrenaline rush and began wailing for help. Other employees who were watching the scenario unfold rushed to help their employer from losing a lot of blood. The former storekeeper on sensing danger decided to flee for his life. He was however tackled to the ground immediately by male employees at the hotel before he could get further away.
The Nairobi hotel boss was rushed to the hospital by some of his employees where he received first aid from medics. The employer was admitted to the hospital for further check-ups, but unfortunately, he lost his thumb to an amputation procedure.
The employee, on the other hand, was placed under police custody and charged with causing grievous harm. The former storekeeper was thereafter arraigned at the Milimani law courts to answer the charges against him.
Senior principal magistrate, Bernard Ochoi, released the employer on a Sh. 200,000 cash bail. The case will be heard again on Monday, August 8th.
