Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate has rejected the election of William Ruto as the fifth president of Kenya. Raila has said that he will be heading to the Supreme Court to challenge the results.
“The release of the presidential results were a violation of the law by Chebukati,” said Raila. He alleged that Chebukati had no authority to declare the results because four commissioners had walked out. Raila alleged that only Chebukati had the results of the final presidential tally.
Raila accused Chebukati of attempting to cause chaos in the country by declaring the presidential results. “We shall not accept. We shall not allow,” he said.
“The figures announced by Chebukati are null and void and must be quashed by a court of law. In our view, there is neither a legally and validly declared winner nor a president-elect,” said Raila.
In the presidential results that were declared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Ruto garnered 7,176,141 votes equal to 50.49 per cent of the total votes cast.
Raila Odinga came in second with a total of 6,942,930 equal to 48.85 per cent of the total votes cast.
Dr. Ruto contested through the UDA party while Raila contested for the seat under the Azimio la Umoja.
