Hellen Wendy Kemunto was the firstborn in a family of six, born to parents John Nyabuto and Alice Oanda. The family has been crippled by a sad state of affairs after learning of their daughter’s tragic death while swimming in Canada, unimaginably.
Reports suggest that the pool where the Kenyan nurse was recording herself was private, hence her discovery 3 hours later.
Hellen Wendy was a graduated oncology nurse from Pwani University and the Toronto Metropolitan University. She had a job at a Canadian hospital where she used her earnings to facilitate her siblings and parents welfare in Kenya.
Last Wednesday night on the 17th was when she had her last conversation with her brother, Enock Magara who lives in Canada too. The two had come a long way together right from Kindergarten school in Kisii.
Enock is touched down in Toronto, Canada in December 2021 still contemplating whether he should return to school to study medicine and become a doctor.
Enock talked to his elder sister that night about returning to school and she in return gave the best suggestions for Universities that he could join in Toronto. After a lengthy phone call, the two hang up after wishing each other goodnight.
Little did he know that was the last time he would hear her sister’s voice when she was alive.
An inconsolable Enock, now alone in Canada, faces the task of making burial arrangements for her sister’s body to return to Kenya for a burial ceremony. He has also been tasked with explaining what had happened to friends and family while dealing with the agonizing pain that his sister was no more.
“My heart sunk when I heard the news of her untimely demise,” said Enock.
Meanwhile, on that fateful Friday afternoon approximately 2:00 pm Canadian time, Hellen Wendy was swimming in a pool where she would meet her untimely demise minutes later.
A few hours ago before heading to the private pool, Hellen Wendy got off a Facetime call with her boyfriend, Alphonce Nyamwaya. They had a short conversation.

“I was preparing myself for the afternoon shift when she gave me a video call. She told me she was headed to the swimming pool to relax after completing her morning shift. She inquired whether I had eaten before we say goodbye to each other,” he said.
Wendy’s ambition of going abroad to seek greener pastures started after she completed high school at Itierio Girls in 2017. She had a strong determination and knew that she had to set the bar high for the rest of her siblings.
Although she knew she would get an opportunity, there was one thing standing in her way, she did not know anyone in Canada.
One of her closest friends said she kept on inquiring until she got someone who had relatives in Canada and who helped her move there after she secured a green card.
