Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has contested the margin with which his political rival Dr William Ruto managed to cross the 50+1 vote requirement to be declared president-elect.
Through fresh submissions to the Supreme Court of Kenya that were made by his lawyer Paul Mwangi on Friday August 26, Raila has also asked the court to disband the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
“The election results were declared on the basis of 0.49% of the total valid votes cast, which is equivalent to approximately 69,000 votes. That slim margin is the context against which Ruto was declared to have met the constitutional threshold,” the affidavit done by Raila’s lawyer Paul Mwangi said.

He added that the IEBC chairperson must not be allowed to continue to lead the IEBC.
Raila alleges that an extra 206,229 votes from 16 counties were illegally added to his Dr. Ruto by Chebukati and the IEBC.
The winner has to get 50% + at least one vote. It can be that slim constitutionally.
