Sirisia MP John Waluke will serve 67 years in jail or pay a Sh. 727,725,562 fine. This is after he lost an appeal to this sentence at the High Court.
Waluke was convicted in a Sh. 297 million fraud case that involved the National Cereals and Produce Board.
This sentence stands as the toughest to be handed to a sitting Member of Parliament for involvement in corruption.
In the ruling, Justice Esther Maina dismissed the appeal that had been lodged by Waluke and his business associate, Grace Wakhungu.
This will see Wakhungu, who is a member of former vice president Moody Awori’s family also serve a jail sentence of up to 69 years if she is unable to raise and pay the fine of Sh. 707,725,562.

“The criminal charges were proved beyond reasonable doubt,” Justice Maina ruled. “The sentences were not excessive. They are within the law. Conviction and sentences affirmed.”
Waluke and Wakhungu, however, allowed to appeal the sentence within 14 days. The two have been out on bail after they were released on Sh.10 million and Sh. 20 million cash bail respectively in September 2020 after spending three months in jail.
They were imprisoned on June 22, 2020 by the Anti-Corruption Court after being found guilty of fraud and illegal acquisition of Sh. 297 million through shady deals at the NCPB.
