The National Assembly Committee on Appointments has unanimously rejected the nomination of Peninah Malonza as the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage.
The committee approved the remaining 21 cabinet secretary nominees including Musalia Mudavadi who was approved for the position of Prime Cabinet Secretary.
Malonza was widely criticized for being cluelessness over issues regarding tourism, heritage and wildlife, the docket she had been nominated to lead.
The parliamentary committee also approved the nomination of Justin Muturi as the country’s Attorney General and Mercy Wanjau as the Secretary to the Cabinet.
Minority Whip Junet Mohamed, however, said the minority had written a minority report rejecting the nomination of Aisha Jumwa and Mithika Linturi.
During her vetting, Ms. Malonza had revealed that she is worth Sh. 300 million. She faced tough questions on aspects of her wealth, further revealing her lack of preparedness for the interview.
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah questioned how she managed to determine the value of land she expects to sell in 2026 at Sh. 50 million.

She argued that the amount was a personal projection. “I have all in my time invested in land, therefore I have a bit of chunk of land. This is a personal confession that I projected after being in business for some time,” she said.
