Congregants of the East Assembly Buruburu Church decided to gift their pastor a luxurious retirement package after serving them for more than 20 years.
Pastor Pius Tembu has now become the owner of a brand new Toyota Prado TX, that goes for nothing less than Sh. 6.5 million in the current market.
Taking the news to social media, the church leadership thanked the congregation for collaborating to give the pastor an expensive and memorable send-off.
“The year of Spiritual Awakening 2023. We thank God for allowing us as a congregation to be a blessing to our Lead Pastor and Bishop. It’s such an honor,” EAC Buruburu wrote.
Another message was sent to the church WhatsApp group. It read:
“The East Assembly Board and pastors wish to sincerely appreciate you for your generous giving towards phase 1 of our project for blessing our Bishop Pius Tembu with a car.”
The church has been collecting funds for the whole of last year. Aside from the new stylish vehicle, the church is planning to launch a contribution project for building the retired Bishop a new house.

Some members of the congregation feel that the church has gone overboard with the gifting.
They argued that the church is located next to hundreds of poor people who worship at the church. They dwell in the neighboring Kiambiu slum and struggle to make ends meet daily.
The pastor already had a car, a good salary and a decent home located close to Prudential estate.
“The pastor already has a Peugeot Saloon which the church management said is too old, so they chose to upgrade him,” said one of the leaders.
The resentful members said that those from Kiambiu slums are only prayed for when they seek help regarding their state of affairs.
“We only pray for them so that their situation can get better. The church actually opened a branch there,” one of the members stated.
