Jectone Oyoo is a Kenyan-born entrepreneur based in Texas who has found immense success in the land of opportunity.
Despite having a well-paying job as a and a master’s degree in Kenya, he decided to pursue a Ph.D. in the United States in 2011.

However, life as an international student was not easy, and he soon realized that many of his peers were forced to switch academic paths to nursing or trucking to survive the tough economy.
“The reality hits you over there when you are a foreign student. The hardship mostly forces people who land in the US to switch interest and start studying nursing or become truckers to survive in that tough economy,” Oyoo told the star.
This led Oyoo to enroll in a second master’s degree in the United States, and it was during this time he took a short course in data analytics, which would prove to be a pivotal moment in his journey.
The course allowed him to gain proficiency in the field and eventually start consulting and training others. With the help of a Green Card, which provided him with permanent residency in the US, he started his own company, Smart Data Analytics.
The company provides fully managed IT services, support, and comprehensive technology solutions.
The success of Smart Data Analytics can be attributed to Oyoo’s belief in the future of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and the importance of data skills in today’s world.
“The future is STEM. We take 14 weeks to train the people at a cost of $4000 (Sh. 498,360), amount which you recoup quickly because major cooperations in America have a soft spot for people with data skills,” the entrepreneur said.
“We have trained people from all over the country and even here in Kenya. People from diverse academic and professional extractions, be it lawyers, journalists, accountants etc., they find that data handling analytical skills are indispensable in the current times,” he said
In late January 2023, Oyoo agreed with Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in Kenya to introduce the data analytics course in his home country.
He believes that this partnership will be pivotal in helping Kenyans understand the importance of data and coding in securing better job opportunities and starting their businesses.
Aside from his IT consultancy, Oyoo also runs several other businesses. He has an entertainment company, Jabali Entertainment, which has organized US tours for local musicians, including Ohangla maestro Prince Indah and Zuchu.
He also runs Medstar Staffing Solutions, which helps recruit nurses in the US for nursing facilities, and Globilink Solutions Limited, an internet distribution business in Kisumu targeting student hostels.
Oyoo’s entrepreneurial spirit and risk-taking attitude have paid off, and he has been able to deepen his economic and financial roots, which might have taken forever to achieve if he had stayed in his safe banking job or returned to Kenya as a university lecturer.
His journey inspires others, showing that success can be achieved through hard work, determination, and a willingness to embrace new opportunities.
