The story of Clive Gisairo, the Member of Parliament for Kitutu Masaba, is one of determination, resilience, and foresight.
After earning a degree in Commerce from the University of Nairobi, Gisairo was eager to become an entrepreneur and create a venture that would provide him with a steady income.
Along with his friends, he settled on a community chicken project called the “One Hen Campaign Project.” The idea behind this project was simple: select households would be gifted with a “seed” hen, and after a while, another chicken would be demanded from their multiplied flock.
Interestingly, the seed capital for the project came from a hen gifted to Gisairo by his grandparents. Over time, Gisairo and his friends transformed the project into a community-based initiative, which involved donating a hen to poor households, gifting new mothers with chickens, and offering scholarships to teenage mothers who had dropped out of school.
Gisairo’s commitment to his community and the innovative project quickly earned him a following among constituents in Masaba, and he was elected to represent them in the 13th Parliament.
The “One Hen Campaign Project” has now grown to serve more than 50,000 beneficiaries and has diversified into livestock feeding, with 7,000 chickens and animal feed available.
The project has also brought economic and knowledge benefits to the community. Gisairo’s team includes 22 employees enrolled in the program and receives training on chicken management, agribusiness, and how to access markets for their chicken.
Additionally, field officers – women, youth, and self-help groups – are trained on these topics as well.

Gisairo also advocates for students enrolling in technical courses, as he believes this will empower them economically.
He has been vocal about upgrading all roads in the constituency, changing the system of awarding educational bursaries, and distributing development projects.
He had earlier stated that he hopes to live up to the expectations of the people of Kitutu Masaba, who trust his leadership abilities.
“I definitely know the people of Kitutu Masaba trust my leadership qualities and I hope to live up to their expectations,” Gisairo said in a past interview.
The interesting story of Clive Gisairo is of a man who was determined to make a difference in his community and transformed a simple idea into a successful and impactful venture. Through his commitment and innovation, he has earned the trust of his constituents and is poised to make a positive impact in the years to come.
