Kenya Revenue Authority Commissioner General Githii Mburu has resigned. His resignation comes a few months after the coming into power of the new administration.
He had been appointed to the position in June 2019. Mburu said that he has left his position as the boss of KRA to pursue personal interests.
His departure was announced by the KRA Board Chairperson Anthony Mwaura.

“Following the resignation, the board has appointed FCCA, CS Rispah Simiyu, Advocate EBS, to be the Acting Commissioner General KRA with effect from 23rd February, 2023 until the position is substantively and competitively filled,” Mwaura.
The resignation comes barely two months after Githii assumed his role as the Vice Chairman of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax purposes. He had been appointed to serve in this position for three years starting January 2023.
“In his new role, the Commissioner General will be part of the Global forum executive that will oversee the implementation of strategies to influence and promote cooperation among tax authorities on the Exchange of Information on Requests (EOIR), Automatic Exchange of Information (AEOI), building capacity and providing technical assistance to tax administration towards the fight against tax evasion,” said KRA Deputy Commissioner, Marketing and Communications Grace Wandera had said when the appointment was made in November 2022.
He was scheduled to serve with other members including the Global forum chair (France), two other Vice chairpersons (Italy, Japan) and sixteen other members drawn from different countries.
Mburu’s appointment followed the end of his two-year term as the first Africa Initiative chairperson, a regional institute established to enhance the potential of tax transparency and exchange of information (EOI) in Africa.
It is now not clear how his resignation from KRA will impact his global roles.
