Gordon Ogada, Man Who “Splurged” his Sh 230 Million Jackpot Winnings in Charity Work

In 2018 Gordon Ogada, a humble resident from Migori county, made headlines after winning the then-highest Sportpesa jackpot worth Sh 230,742,881 million.

This was the biggest-ever gaming payout in Kenya. Ogada correctly predicted the results of all 17 games on offer in the weekly competition on the gaming platform, with only Sh 100.

During the unveiling ceremony, Ogada narrated how he had struggled with life after the demise of his parents over 20 years ago, expressing his gratitude to the Almighty God.

While many took him to his word, Ogada’s sentiments were just but a smart media twist to escape from the limelight. Years later, it emerged that he had made a series of investments among them in the lucrative real estate sector.

Initially, he lived in Kibera, but after winning the jackpot, he bought a house in Kitengela, Kajiado County, to ensure that his family lived comfortably and upgraded his rural home.

He built a multimillion 2-storey mansion in his rural area. The mansion spells class in the busy village of Nyatike Ward, Migori County. It is fancy and well-fenced to keep off intruders.

“This house has the same luxury as the one in Kitengela. I just want my family to be as comfortable no matter which house they are in,” he said.

Ogada also started a philanthropy arm that is known by a few as he chooses to stay away from the limelight. He helps widows and orphans as a way of giving back to the community.

Ogada has significantly impacted many disadvantaged families in his community. He has since solved the challenge of access to clean water in Nyatike by sinking 14 boreholes.

In 2019, he was recognized by Migori County Government for outstanding performance in promoting education in Nyatike Sub County.

Ogada was credited for fully sponsoring 56 students from various wards in his hometown to secondary school, a move that helped them attain their education dream.
