Airtel offers Sh. 20 tariff for data, SMS and voice across all networks

Airtel offers Sh. 20 tariff for data, SMS and voice across all networks

Airtel has introduced a Sh20 daily tariff for its voice, data and SMS services across all networks as it seeks to reach more subscribers in the low-income market segment. The new daily data bundle offers free WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter.

Under the new package Airtel subscribers with Sh20 can now get 20 MB of data, make eight minutes of calls and send 20 SMSs across all networks on the bundled bill plan dubbed “UnlimiNet tariff” that was first launched in February last year at a cost of Sh50.

With the industry call charges averaging Sh4 per minute, Sh20 minutes can only make a five-minutes call, meaning Airtel subscribers opting for this tariff will get three more minutes on top of SMS and data capacities.

The launch comes on the background of increased minutes of usage in the industry. The latest Communications Authority of Kenya report for the three months to September indicates that subscribers from the three mobile firms made longer calls, increasing their monthly minutes of usage to 95.8 minutes up from 85.6 minutes recorded the previous year.

Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefi said the firm wants to use the new proposition to net more customers, especially those in the low income market segment, while encouraging those within its network to spend at least Sh20 per day.

“The UnlimiNet bundle plans are based on emerging consumer insights and trends that show a substantial increase of data usage for both social and business needs and are aimed at promoting cost efficiency for voice and data services grow on the network and redefine customers’ conversations,” said Mr Adil.
