How Mlolongo hairdresser Jane Mwende was murdered

Jane Mwende, who worked as a hairdresser at a popular salon in Mlolongo, went missing under mysterious circumstances two weeks ago.

Tragically, her decomposed body was discovered in a pit latrine on Tuesday.

According to reports, the 28-year-old, who was a mother of one, received a phone call two weeks ago that led her to leave her workplace.

She never returned to her duties, which raised concerns and alarm among her colleagues because her phone was switched off during this time.

An investigation team, led by Machakos police and Mlolongo residents, collaborated to uncover her body inside a pit latrine. The dump site is near a rented house believed to belong to one of the suspected killers.

Allegations suggest that Jane Mwende met her fate in a love triangle involving a married man. The police have focused their investigation on three women as potential suspects. Two of them have been arrested, while the third has reportedly fled to Mombasa.

A post-mortem examination conducted on Jane Mwende at Montezuma Monalisa Funeral Home in Machakos revealed that she had been strangled by her assailants prior to her body being disposed off in the pit latrine.

The murder took place at the time when Kenya suffered a massive power outage. Killers took advantage of the darkness that covered the country to commit this crime.

“There are clear indications that she died from lack of oxygen caused by strangulation which cut off her airways. That is the cause of death,” stated Dr. Michieka, the pathologist who addressed Jane Mwende’s family.

Detectives have since arrested January Musau, a popular real estate broker in the area and his wife. These two arrests made the search easier for her other killers Evelyn Wanza and Faith Nthemba.

“We have been studying the call logs of their phones for crucial clues. They have been helping us with the investigation,” said the head of detectives at Mlolongo police station, George Kamau.

The third suspect in the case, Phylis Mbithi is said to have fled to Mombasa and gone underground. Detectives also nabbed a taxi driver who is said to have been hired by the killers but failed to take on the job.

Speculations had arisen that Jane Mwende’s body might have been discarded in the forests of Kajiado and Makueni, prompting detectives to conduct searches in those areas.

The family, relatives and friends of Jane Mwende are now proceeding with burial arrangements after the post-mortem was concluded. She will be laid to rest at Kavingo village, which borders Kitui and Machakos counties.
