A man based in Thika has attracted the attention of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission after it was discovered that he has properties worth hundreds of millions whose source he cannot explain.
The man, Felix Mecha Nyakundi, is a senior official at the Ministry of Lands in Thika. Following this, the EACC has successfully petitioned the High Court to freeze his properties which include 106 prime pieces of land, 17 high end vehicles, and millions of money both in cash and in bank accounts.
“EACC has, today, secured orders from the High Court freezing multi-billion wealth including 106 prime land parcels and commercial buildings in different counties, 17 high-end vehicles and Sh. 4,260,000 in cash belonging to Thika Land Registrar Felix Mecha Nyakundi,” the EACC announced.
These properties have been frozen for a period of six months. The properties are spread across multiple counties which include Machakos County, Nairobi County, Kisii County, Kajiado County and Makueni County.
The EACC told the court that it obtained court orders to probe Mr. Nyakundi and upon a raid at his home, he was found with up to Sh. 4.6 million whose purpose or source he could not explain.
The EACC went on to state that the value of the money and properties owned by Mr. Nyakundi was disproportionate to the amount of salary he earned from his work at the Ministry of Lands, raising suspicion that they could have been proceeds of corruption.

“We intend to analyse the documents seized in the course of the search and we have reasonable apprehension that in view of the above discovery and ongoing investigations, the said properties are at risk of being transferred, sold, encumbered or otherwise wasted, thereby jeopardising the recovery,” the EACC told High Court judge Esther Maina.
