Immigration department issues update on passport collection

By Gloria Rebecca

The immigration department has announced that from Monday, May 13th, to Friday, May 18th, passport delivery will be expedited at all passport application centers.

On Sunday, the department gave a notice containing the list of places where the exercise will take place; Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Embu, Nakuru, Kisii and Kericho.

“To enhance passport issuance, we have dedicated May 13th to May 18th, 2024, to the fast-tracking of passport delivery in all passport application centers across the country,” it stated.

The department has asked all applicants who have received notification that their passports are ready for collection to take advantage of the exercise.

This came after the department remained open on Saturday, May 11th, to allow Kenyans to collect their passports.

Interior CS, Kithure Kindiki, says that the government has put in place the measures for the speedy collection and delivery of the final batch of 45,000 passports, which are ready to be collected.

This batch is from the 750,000 passports whose production had been delayed.

CS Kindiki says that the systems are now aligned after acquisition of two new printers for the personalization of passport details.

The CS had earlier directed the immigration department to ensure that 49,500 uncollected passports are delivered and collected within 14 days, effective May 10th.

He instructed the department to implement a Rapid Result Initiative (RRI) to guarantee that the documents are processed within the designated timeframe.
