The government has announced the extension of the funding application deadline for 2023 KCSE candidates joining universities in the 2024/2025 academic year.
The Education Ministry announced new changes on Monday, August 5. Under these changes, learners are required to submit their applications by August 15, 2024.
“We are pleased to announce the application process has been extended by ten days, closing on August 15, 2024. Under the new funding model, government funding will be allocated based on individual student needs,’’ the statement reads in part.
The Ministry further said that parents and guardians would be informed of the fees they will pay for the University programs.

“Starting August 19, 2024, parents and guardians will be informed of the university fees/household contribution towards the cost of the university programme,” the statement adds.
The new funding model introduced by the government in May 2023 aims to provide free education to Universities and college students facing financial difficulties.
Under this model, the students are categorized as vulnerable, extremely needy, needy, and less needy. The vulnerable and extremely needy students would receive 100 percent funding, while the needy and less needy would get 93 percent.
Since the Ministry opened the application portal for loans and scholarships for the 2023 cohort, only 79,038 students have applied for both loans and scholarships but 74,237 university students are yet to apply for funding.
