NCBA leads the market in corporate banking, asset finance, and digital banking across Africa, serving over 60 million customers in five countries, and showcasing its strong presence.
To stay ahead of the curve in its game, the bank has focused on a niche strategy; gearing up for digital transformation as a way to stay competitive.
Over 3,000 NCBA employees across East Africa will gain from a digital skills program, thanks to a partnership between NCBA Group and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
NCBA states that its partnership with AWS, a leading global cloud services provider, aims to strengthen the bank’s role as a leader in digital innovation.
It also focuses on creating a workforce that’s ready for the future, equipped with the right tools, knowledge, and certifications to ensure the bank’s continued success.
The collaboration will leverage AWS’s training and certification programs to create tailored training sessions for NCBA staff across the countries where the bank operates.
Lessons shall be delivered through the AWS Digital Classroom and will equip NCBA staff with knowledge and digital skills in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity and Big Data Analytics.
The Bank’s Group MD John Gachora said the partnership is an important step in fast-tracking the bank’s shift to digital.
It aligns with the bank’s broader vision for transforming its services and improving customer experiences whilst also remaining competitive in the workforce. Furthermore, it also reinforces employee development and retention.
“By equipping our staff with advanced problem-solving digital skills, we are accelerating our digital transformation efforts, enabling us to bring new end-to-end digitized customer journeys to market,” John Gachora indicated.

The digital training program will use AWS’s world-class training and certification, fully customized to the needs of the financial institution. The sessions, hosted on AWS Digital Classroom, will be led by virtual instructors who will help employees build skills in key areas of digital banking.
“Organizations need cloud-skilled professionals to drive business transformation, and the availability of skilled talent is the single biggest barrier to industry transformation,” noted AWS Head of EMEA Training and Certification Martin Risau.
The Digital Skills Training program is scheduled to be rolled out in phases in September 2024 to make sure a majority of the targeted NCBA employees in the region fully participate.
The training will focus on how to use digital tools in real-life situations, helping employees apply what they learn to their jobs at NCBA. Whether in corporate banking, asset finance, or digital banking, these new skills will help the bank provide better financial solutions.
