NTSA issue new 22-day directive affecting business licences

NTSA issue new 22-day directive affecting business licences

In line with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) mandate outlined in the Traffic Act Cap 403, a mandatory crackdown has commenced, targeting all motor vehicle dealers, tow truck operators and repair shops to ensure they revalidate their licences.

The move is seen as repression against unregulated industry players. The notice, which was published in the MyGov magazine issue, indicates that the crackdown will begin on November 11th and end on November 22nd.

All stakeholders actively engaged in the business will be required to submit their validation documents by 6th November.

According to NTSA Director General George Njao, the revalidation exercise would involve a thorough review of documentation. Furthermore, a Multi-agency team would be involved to comb through and verify all submitted documents.

NTSA has opened the online licence revalidation form on its website and has urged all operators to meet the deadline to avoid penalties.

“All operators are therefore directed to complete and submit an online licence revalidation format available on the NTSA website on or before Wednesday, 6th November,” read part of Njao’s statement.

“As part of the exercise, the Multi-agency team will conduct a physical inspection of the operator’s premises to verify the information submitted through the online revalidation form.”

Mistakes to avoid when transferring vehicle ownership online

The traffic authority recently cautioned Kenyans against driving uninsured vehicles as it could lead to penalties as extreme as serving jail time. It also addressed common violations happening during vehicle ownership transfer.

The Traffic Act requires that vehicles be transferred to their new owners within 14 days of purchase. However, many sellers often fail to comply with this rule, leading to severe penalties.
