Following the re-introduction of the 20 per cent valuation excise tax on second hand motor vehicles, Bizna Kenya looked at the prices of second hand motor vehicles that come of our local dealers are offering. Alarmingly, we found out that cars that sold at Sh. 500,000 have been selling in the excess of Sh. 980,000.
Strikingly, these high prices are not the norm in the market ad are only restricted to certain dealers.

Bizna found out that Toyotsu Auto Mart Kenya is one of the leading most expensive second hand car dealers. At Toyotsu, the price of a 1,500 cc 2009 Toyota Vitz is Sh. 980,000 while a 1,000 cc Toyota Vitz is retailing at Sh. 895,000. In the same vein, we found out that the 1,500 cc Toyota Allion 2009 model is retailing as high as Sh. 1.6 million! To find out if these are the same prices tagged on cars in other car bazaars, Bizna carried out a spot check. Here are our findings:
