Millicent Ayuwa, popularly known as Dem Wa Facebook is one of the fast-rising content creators in Kenya, known for her humor.
In an interview with the Nation Newspaper, Ayuwa, who was born in Butere but raised in Trans Nzoia narrated how she struggled for success having been brought up in a humble background.
“I come from a very poor background. My mother used to work in farms or sell vegetables while my dad sold building bricks,’’ she recalled.
She added that the meager income her parents earned couldn’t cater to all their needs and raising school fees became a challenge.
As a result, he resorted to playing football before she landed a scholarship to join Brenda Girls High School in Bungoma County where she honed her football skills.
“As a young girl, I loved football and I started playing when I was in class six. I played for Kenya Women’s Premier League team Trans Nzoia Falcons for five years,” she added.
Her prowess saw her climb the ladder to become the team captain and led it to victory in the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom tournament in 2018.

She however couldn’t continue with her football career due to financial struggles. As the family’s bread winner, Ayuma had to look for a source of income to support her parents.
“I was not making money yet my family was depending on me to provide food and put a roof over our heads. I joined Bungoma Queens hoping they would pay my college fees, which did not happen so I quit,’’ she added.
Ayuwa revealed while playing for Bungoma Queens, her friends encouraged her to pursue her career in comedy which years later materialized.
Her career started to blossom when she earned a chance to audition for the popular TV show Churchill Live thanks to an encounter with a local comedian in Bungoma.
“I studied Civil Engineering in Sangalo College in Bungoma for two years and I could not balance my studies and my passion for comedy. When I came to Nairobi, I worked with various comedians who held my hand. I used to earn between Sh5,000 and Sh2,000 from other shows until I performed at Churchill.’’
“People started calling me Dem Wa Facebook after the Churchill Show and it stuck,” she said adding that she earned Sh40,000 from the Churchill Show performance.
Despite experiencing immense pressure from social media, Ayuwa developed a saving culture that propelled her to millionaire club and enabled her to build a three-bedroom house for her parents.
“I made my first million in 2024 after saving for years… My home was not something I was proud of. I wanted to make sure my family had a home they could be proud of,” she says.
While her dream was to play for the national women’s football team, her comedy career as significantly transformed her life.
Among the brands she has worked with are Raha Premium, Ratino Dreadlocks, and Modern furniture company. She advises others to pursue their talents and give it their best.
“If you have two legs make sure you die rich. Don’t beg for anything when you are alive. Use your talent, work hard, and never give up,” she advises.
