Secret and sensitive data at the Business Registration Services (BRS) which is owned by the government has been breached in a cyber attack and data theft that took place on the night of Friday , January 31, 2025.
Following this breach, personal data has become available on websites, showing who owns what companies, and which companies some of Kenya’s most prominent personalities have stakes in.
Among those shows data has been exposed are First Lady Rachel Ruto and her son George Ruto. Rachel and George Ruto have been shown to be directors of multiple companies.
For instance, the Standard reports that Rachel’s full name, Chebet Rael Kimeto is entered as the director and shareholder in various businesses. These businesses and companies include Destiny Women Microfinance Bank Limited, Joyful Housing Union Ltd, Talya Company Limited, and Urban Groove Apartments Limited.
She has also been shown as having connections with companies such as Lake Jipe Fisheries Ltd, Kisima Fisheries Ltd, Taveta Fisheries Ltd, Black Beauty Company Limited, Koilel Farm Limited, Matiny Limited, Weston Hotel Limited and Bluesand Holdings Limited.
George Ruto on the other hand has been shown to own companies that include Golf Charlie Investments Limited (beneficial owner), Nerami LLP (partner), Golf Charlie Investment Limited (director/shareholder), TBT The Biashara Team Limited (director/shareholder), X Fold Limited (director/shareholder), and Seil Investment Limited (director/shareholder).

Others who have been exposed in the data breach are members of the former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s family, whose brother, Muhoho Kenyatta has been shown as having directorial and shareholder positions in 50 companies and organizations.
Some of the leaked data was made available on websites such as B2B Hint. The data included that of ordinary Kenyans with companies doing small scale businesses such as with county governments.
