Veteran journalist Leonard Mambo Mbotela is dead

Veteran journalist Leonard Mambo Mbotela has passed away.

The news of his demise was confirmed by his family who said the ailing journalist took his last breath on Friday, February 7 at around 9:30. Am.

The legendary journalist was famed for his popular radio and TV programme dubbed Je Huu ni Ungwana? which aired on the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation- KBC radio and TV.

The 85-year-old was a legendary Kenyan broadcaster who worked for decades at KBC.

His career in the media industry kick-started in the 1960s at Kenya Weekly News and the East African Standard before joining Voice of Kenya as a program assistant.

He launched “Je, Huu ni Ungwana?” in 1966 a groundbreaking program focused on etiquette and behaviour, which became immensely popular across Kenya.

His media prowess earned him an opportunity to serve at the Presidential Press Unit, between 1984-1991 where he had direct interactions with then-President Daniel Arap Moi.

He later returned to KBC, where he juggled various broadcasting roles with his passion for music until his demise. He leaves behind a wife and three children: Aida, Jimmy, and George.
