Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohamed has disclosed the amount of money made from ticket sales during their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier match against Gabon at Nyayo National Stadium.

Speaking on Tuesday, Hussein revealed the Sunday match generated Sh7 million for the federation.

He clarified that the stadium currently has a capacity of 22,000 seats, with a regular sitting area of 18,000 people and a VIP section for 1,400 people.

Hussein noted that out of the 22,000 tickets made available, 15,968 regular tickets, 1,331 VIP tickets, and 107 VVIP tickets were sold. The regular tickets were priced at Sh300, while VIP and VVIP tickets were given out for Sh1,000 and Sh10,000 respectively.

“We sold a total of 15,968 regular tickets and 1,331 VIP tickets. Car park slots had 329 tickets sold, while the VVIP area had 107. In total, we sold 17,735 tickets. However, there was a slight overflow, bringing the total revenue collected to Sh6,998,497,” Hussein stated.

“Any extra was an issue of overflow, and that happened when we had an issue on gate number 8 and gate number 2,” he added.

He added that ticket sales had to be restricted to comply with Confederation of African Football (CAF) regulations.

“As per CAF regulations, you are not supposed to sell 100% of the seats, we are supposed to sell slight than that number.”

Regarding the security situation at the Nyayo Stadium, the FKF admitted there were security lapses, with the Federation’s boss revealing the body would collaborate with police to ensure future games are ‘more successful’.
