Joy Karwitha Kiugu, a nominee for the Meru County Executive Committee Member, captured the public’s attention on Wednesday, May 7, after arriving for her swearing-in ceremony in a chopper.
The Meru County assembly approved Kiugu’s nomination as the executive member for lands, physical planning, urban development, and public works on Tuesday, following Isaac Kinoti Marete’s resignation.
According to her, she was in Nairobi at the time of the announcement of her appointment, prompting her to hire a chopper to ensure a timely arrival for her swearing-in ceremony.
Kiungu’s profile indicates that the 32-year-old attended Awalegio Visitation for her primary education in Timau before joining Kakadau High School.
She proceeded to the University of Nairobi (UoN), where she graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 2013.

She later enrolled for a master’s degree in management information systems from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
Prior to her nomination, Kiungu had served in various organisations, including Technology Associates, Computech Limited, and Riviera Technologies, among others.
Currently, she is serving as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cyber East Africa Limited, a cybersecurity company with operations across East Africa.
She joins a team of other newly appointed CECS, including Monica Kathono (Finance, Economic Planning and ICT), Dennis Mugambi (Health), Carol Kaberia (Tourism), Esther Rukunga (Education, Science and Arts), and Maranya Mari (Legal Affairs and Public Service management).
Others are Kanyaru Muriki (Water and Irrigation), Elias Murega (Youth, Sports, Gender and Social Development), Janaro Gatangugi (Agriculture), and David Baariu (Roads, Transport and Energy).
