Ethiopian Cargo receives 12th Boeing 777-200LR cargo aircraft

Ethiopian Cargo has received its 12th Boeing 777-200LR Freighter aircraft, ET-BAC. Ethiopian Cargo is the freight arm of the Ethiopian Airlines.

“This milestone delivery not only expands our cargo capacity but also enhances our logistics network across key global markets, reinforcing our leadership in air freight,” the Ethiopian Group said in a statement.

“What makes this event more historic is the aircraft itself, the Boeing 777-200LRF is the final production of this aircraft type to be manufactured by Boeing, one of the most capable and efficient freighters in aviation history. Ethiopian Airlines is honored to be the recipient of this iconic aircraft, a testament to our strong partnership with Boeing and our continued investment in cutting-edge fleet technology.”

The acquisition of the new freighter was announced barely two days after the Group marked another milestone with the successful arrival of its first coffee cargo charter flight at Ezhou Huahu International Airport, China.

“This achievement boosts trade ties between Ethiopia and China, elevating the efficiency of coffee exports along the strategic ‘Air Silk Road’ corridor. We’re honored to deliver Ethiopia’s world-renowned coffee to more markets and deepen our partnership with China,” the Group had announced.

In addition, the new aircraft acquisition is the latest in a series of aircraft acquisition by the Ethiopian Group that have seen Ethiopian Airlines expand its reach and services. Currently, Ethiopian Airlines is the largest airline in the African continent, a move that Ethiopian Cargo is aiming to replicate in the freight industry.

“With the addition of ET-BAC, we continue to shape the future of air logistics, connecting continents, businesses, and communities with unmatched efficiency,” said the Group in a statement.

In November 2024, Ethiopian Group received a brand new Airbus A350-1000 passenger aircraft to push its in-service fleet to over 150. The Group has more orders in pipeline following contracts with both Boeing and Airbus.
