Investor Kibunga Kimani’s Centum stake now worth over Sh1 billion

Billionaire investor Kibunga Kimani’s stake in Centum Investments Company has crossed the Sh1 billion mark in value. This is after the billionaire investor topped up the amount of Centum shares he owns.

According to regulatory filings, Kibunga Kimani’s Centum stake currently comprises of some 73.6 million shares that have a market valuation of Sh1.06 billion as per the average crossing price of Sh14.45 per share as at September 22, 2025.

This means that over the past one year, the billionaire has acquired millions of shares in the company to climb up the ownership ladder. The regulatory filings, for instance, show that as at March 2024, Kimani’s stake stood at 6.87 percent which was equivalent to about 45.6 million shares.

Since then, Kibunga Kimani has acquired 27.9 million shares with a value of about Sh403.5 million at the current average trading price of Sh14.45. This takes his total holding in the investment company to 73.6 million shares.

This build up of shares by the investor did not happen all at once. Kimani first significantly raised his holding in the company to 45.5 million shares in December 2023 from 34.6 million shares as at March 2023. This was an increase of 1.63 percent from a stake of 5.21 percent to 6.84 percent. These shares were acquired at a time when the Centum share price had declined to between Sh7.6 per share and Sh8.4 per share.

He followed this acquisition with more shares in the company which he purchased in 2024. For instance, in the six months to December 2024, the billionaire increased his stake to 9.7 percent after acquiring shares that at the time had an estimated worth of 233.6 million.

Following this huge acquisition, Kibunga Kimani has risen in the list of top Centum shareholders to position three. He is now ranked behind the estate of the late industrialist Chris Kirubi which holds a 30.94 percent stake in Centum, and the Kenya Development Corporation (KDC) which holds a 22.96 percent stake in the company. The KDC is an entity that is owned by the government.
