Absa Bank Kenya announces Diana Mwaniki as acting finance chief

Commenting on the appointment, Absa Bank Kenya Interim Managing Director and CEO, Yusuf Omari, said:

Absa Bank Kenya PLC has announced the appointment of Diana Mwaniki in the acting capacity of Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective 1 July 2026, pending regulatory approval.

The announcement follows the appointment of Yusuf Omari, the incumbent CFO, as Interim Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer after the resignation of Abdi Mohamed as the MD and CEO of Absa Bank Kenya.

Ms. Mwaniki assumes the role after serving as the Bank’s Head of Financial Decision Support since joining Absa in September 2022. She will lead the Bank’s finance function, providing strategic financial leadership and oversight as Absa continues to execute its growth strategy and deliver sustainable value for customers, shareholders and other stakeholders.

A seasoned finance executive with more than 17 years of experience in financial services, Diana has built a distinguished career in financial strategy, performance management, governance, internal controls and risk management. Her appointment reinforces the Bank’s commitment to strong financial stewardship and leadership continuity.

Prior to joining Absa, Diana held senior finance leadership roles within the banking sector, where she was responsible for strengthening financial controls, enhancing governance frameworks, and driving effective financial oversight. In these roles, she played a critical part in supporting operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and sound risk management practices.

Diana holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the United States International University and a Bachelor’s degree in Banking and Finance from Moi University. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) and has completed executive leadership training at Duke University.
