Primerose Oyiera, a 24 year old Fashion designer and a journalism student at the Technical University of Mombasa is not your ordinary youth. This fierce entrepreneur has accomplished what most of her peers can barely imagine.
She shares her entrepreneurial story with Bizna Kenya:
“My name is Primerose Oyiera, I’m 24 years old and I come from Mombasa. Today I have decided to share my story with Bizna Kenya readers because I believe it will transform and motivate my peers and my fellow Kenyans at large on their entrepreneurial journey” she says.
“I started my entrepreneurial journey at a very young age, doing a number of small businesses such as selling home-made candies and popcorns to friends.”
Her mother passed on when she was only 7 years old; this was followed by early retirement of her dad. The two incidences drastically changed her life making it hard for her to afford basic necessities such as her school fees. “My dad struggled to keep me in school. I was always in and out of school due to lack of school fees“ she narrates.
At the Nakuru Blaze Summit, her eco-friendly business idea, TrueLocs Loc Extensions’ was the best in the Fashion Category winning her Ksh 100, 000 courtesy of Safaricom’s Blaze.
“I saw an advertisement on Tv of Safaricom’s BLAZE (BYOB) and decided to apply, I wasn’t sure I would win. I however though oh well, let me just apply and see how this will turn out” She says.
Primerose started TrueLocs Loc extensions in November 2016 with an aim to fill the gap in the ready locs market. They last up to two years! And are recyclable and reusable. The concept was thoroughly researched and was approved for the trial phase on February 2017, introducing its to the market and getting its first client in July.
“ A good business idea is the one aiming at filling a certain gap in the make or solving an existing problem” She says.
