The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNNCI) has put up a bid to host the world commerce congress in Nairobi. yesterday, it received a boost after its bid was endorsed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In his endorsement, President Kenyatta cites that Nairobi as Kenya’s capital city boasts of being the only city in the world with a national park and that has in the recent past been selected to host several international conferences including WTO, UNCTAD 14, TICAD VI and HLM II. “Nairobi also hosts the headquarters of many United Nations institutions and International Companies. It would, therefore be an ideal location not only for transacting the congress business but also offers an exciting one of a kind experience for the congress business.”
The chamber led by its chairman Kiprono Kittony and chief executive officer Angela Ndambuki will in April head to China where it will submit its bid to host the summit.
It will be facing off with bids from other countries who include Ethiopia, Oman, Iran, Jordan and Dubai.
The PS for International Trade Dr. Chris Kiptoo shall be representing government. The April physical bid presentation to the judging committee is a culmination of lobbying other member chambers which has seen delegations from the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry travel to various events including the 2017 World chamber congress held in Sydney Australia as well as a visit by Anthony Parkes, World Chambers Federation (WCF) director to Kenya.
According to Ms. Ndambuki, the CEO KNCCI, “By Kenya hosting such an event this provides an opportunity for the local business community to participate in transforming the future of business globally as they share the floor with some of the World’s most prominent leaders and brightest minds. This event presents a once in a lifetime networking opportunity for Kenyan investors to interact and form partnerships with other business leaders from around the world.”
