Nairobi Hospital Cholera Outbreak: One staff member at the Nairobi Hospital has died following a cholera outbreak at the medical facility. The outbreak has also left seven members of staff admitted in serious condition.
According to reports appearing in the media, at least 23 cholera cases, eight involving staff, had been treated at the hospital in April alone.
Following the outbreak, the cafeteria located at the hospital has been closed indefinitely. The news come as a shock since the hospital is one of the leading medical facilities in the country.
Last month, the Nairobi County Health department raised the alarm over a cholera outbreak. Health director Lucia Koyio directed referral hospitals to reactivate their treatment units.
