Months after losing his job at K24 Tv, journalist Franklin Wambugu has landed a new job. Mr. Wambugu has been appointed as the director of public relations and communications at the Kiambu County government.
“I am here to showcase what Kiambu County has to offer in terms of service delivery especially with it being the second-most populous county and attracts a lot of interest,” said Wambugu. “I am not going there to reinvent the wheel. I am going to work with people who are very talented.”
Mr. Wambugu boasts of a wealth of experience spanning 20 years. He is one of Kenya’s most prominent Swahili news anchors. In his new role, Franklin Wambugu will be tasked with taking care of professional, administrative, and operational matters relating to public communications in the entire Kiambu County.
Eric Njoka: My life after losing my news anchor job at K24
The former journalist was among the leading news anchors who were tapped from Citizen Tv only to be axed barely months by MediaMax. Over the past few years, MediaMax has emerged as one of the most notorious and ruthless employers in Kenya. The media house affiliated with the Kenyatta family carried one of its most ruthless sackings in June. It fired over 100 journalists on a Sunday night via text messages.
Among the fired journalists were Betty Kyalo, Jalang’o and Eric Njoka. However, Wambugu was fired alongside popular journalists Fred Njiiri, Boniface Mutakha, and the then Deputy Managing Editor Ali Mtenzi, the then K24 Business Editor Tony Timase, and the then Sports Editor Torome Tirike.
