TSC School Reopening: All secondary and primary teachers were expected to report back to work today. This is per the directive that was issued by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) last week. Following this directive, the TSC has now outlined punitive measures for teachers who failed to report to work by Monday, September 28.
According to a TSC circular that was quoted by the People Daily, the defying teachers would face serious punishment for missing the deadline. In the circular, Sub-County Directors of Education (SDEs) warned that missing the deadline would amount to absconding of duty which is a punishable offence.
“Teachers will not be allowed to ask for a day off, they must all report today and on subsequent days for the tasks directed by the Ministry of Education to run smoothly,” the circular read in part. This means that if previous precedence is to be followed, punishment may include removal from payroll.
